New engines planned for west
To help keep up with the demand for fire protection, the city of Las Vegas will purchase two fire engines to provide coverage in the fast growing western portion of the city.
The City Council on Wednesday approved spending $750,000 to purchase the two fire engines.
Earlier this year the national Insurance Services Office advised the fire department that it needed additional engines to provide adequate coverage.
Residents may seek waivers
Residents living in an improvement district now have an option to protest an assessment because of hardships.
The City Council on Wednesday introduced a bill that establishes a hardship procedure for residents whose property would be included within the boundaries of an improvement district.
A resident wanting to apply for a hardship determination would be required to file an application with the Clark County Department of Social Services no later than three days prior to the hearing on the assessment. The department will make a recommendation to the council, which would decide whether to approve the application.
Another bill introduced on Wednesday allows certain retail stores that sell liquor for off-premise consumption to apply for a waiver of the minimum 400-foot separation requirement for liquor establishments.
The bill will amend the zoning code to allow a waiver of the separation between schools, churches, child care and park for retail stores selling alcohol for off-premises consumption.
The northwest is
on its way to having a 50-acre softball complex. The City Council on Wednesday approved an agreement with Poggemeyer Group Inc. to design a softball complex at Alexander Road and Hualapai Way.
