The Las Vegas Strip's MGM Grand hotel-casino sued to recover $151,158 in damages from WorkgroupTechnology Corp. of Burlington, Mass., alleging it used the "unfortunate events" of Sept. 11 as a pretext to cancel an Oct. 19-24 conference.
This is the fourth suit filed in recent months over cancelled Las Vegas conferences.
MGM, which said it agreed on March 26, 2001, to reserve meeting space, 530 room nights and food and beverage for the conference, said Workgroup "acted in bad faith" when it refused to honor an agreement to pay "100 percent of the net room and tax revenue, anticipated food and beverage revenue and meeting room rental revenue" if it cancelled the conference after June 15.
Workgroup allegedly cancelled its conference on Sept. 13.
The defendant could not be reached for comment on MGM's allegations.
