Volunteers sought to enter training
The Trauma Intervention Program is seeking volunteers and will have a training academy starting Thursday.
The TIP is looking for teen and adult volunteers. The training runs from through March 17.
TIP is a group of specially trained volunteers who provide emotional and practical support to victims of traumatic events. The volunteers work closely with Metro Police.
All volunteers must have a have Nevada driver's license. For more information or to register, contact Marian Thomas at 894-0903.
Open houses planned at area substations
Metro Police will host open houses at 7 p.m. today at all substations.
Minimizing the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft is one of the topics of discussion. Recruiting representatives also will be available to discuss employment opportunities in the department on April 2.
Substation locations: Downtown, 401 S. Fourth St.; Northeast, 831 N. Mojave Road; Northwest, 9850 W. Cheyenne Ave.; Southeast, 2300 E. St. Louis Ave.; Southwest, 5925 Spring Mountain Road.
Churches hosting event of AIDS awareness
The Clark County Health District, Sista to Sista and Fighting AIDS in Our Community along with The Balm in Gilead are sponsoring the 13th annual Black Church Week of Prayer through Saturday to promote AIDS education and compassion.

March 9: 9 a.m.-noon, Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Madison Ave., 648-6115.
The Spring Dance Event 2002
will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Texas Station to benefit Shade Tree shelter for women and children. Admission is $30, which includes food, dancing, prizes and a dance contest. Call 255-1179.
