Vote planned on contract

The union that has worked to organize table-game dealers at casinos throughout Las Vegas said voting will begin this week on a three-year collective bargaining agreement for dealers at the New Frontier hotel-casino.
The Transport Workers Union of America said meetings will be conducted this week to explain details of the contract, which will be voted on by mail. Tim Grandfield, director of organizing for the TWU, said 115 ballots have been distributed and a simple majority is needed for passage.
Grandfield said he did not want to disclose salary levels outlined in the contract until after the meetings with the dealers.
The contract also clarifies health and retirement benefits, grievance and arbitration procedures, seniority rights and holiday and overtime policies.
The union said it is the first contract agreement for dealers in the city's history. Representatives of the New Frontier could not be reached for comment.
