BLM grant to help counties assess fire threat
Monday, March 4, 2002 | 9:14 a.m.
Nevada has received a $275,000 grant from the Bureau of Land Management to assist the Nevada Division of Forestry in wildland fire risk assessments and to reduce potential fuels in Eureka and Lincoln counties.
Eureka County will receive $125,000, Gov. Kenny Guinn said, of which $100,000 will be used to identify and reduce fuels to help minimize risks from wild fires.
The remaining $25,000 will be used countywide to assist Eureka residents to identify areas of greatest threat from wildfires, including homes.
In Lincoln County, $115,000 of the grant will be used to identify and implement fire reduction projects in Pioche, Panaca and Caliente.
The remaining $35,000 will be used to fund a seasonal employee to help document the grant.
