Suspects sought in drive-by

North Las Vegas Police are searching for suspects in a drive-by shooting Thursday that left a 22-year-old man dead.

Madison James Jones II of Las Vegas and another man were walking on Hassell Avenue, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Martin Luther King Boulevard, about 1:30 p.m. Thursday when a car stopped at the intersection and a man with a gun leaned out of a window, police said.

Both men started to run as the gunman fired several shots. Jones was shot as he ran. He was taken to University Medical Center where he later died, police said. The second man was not hit.

The suspects left the area in the car, described as gray or blue, police said.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call North Las Vegas Police at 633-9111 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Girl, 6, critical after shooting

A 6-year-old girl was in critical condition this morning after at least two suspects fired into her home early Thursday.

The girl was hit several times and suffered bullet wounds in her ankle, calf, thigh, stomach and shoulder at her home in the 6200 block of Warm River Road near Washington Avenue. She was in critical condition in University Medical Center's pediatric intensive care unit.

About 2 a.m. Thursday someone knocked on door of the home asking for someone. A resident responded saying no one by that name lived at the home and shut the door. Seconds later shots were fired into the home.

Just eight minutes later a house in the 1600 block of Crest Haven, near Jones Boulevard, was shot into. The residents at that home were relatives of the people who live at the Warm River Road home. No one was injured in the second shooting.

Police said a red car was seen leaving the area at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the gang crimes unit at 229-3309 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
