Herrera reports burglar stole computers

Thursday, June 27, 2002 | 9:27 a.m.

Clark County Commission Chairman and congressional hopeful Dario Herrera said someone burglarized his home Tuesday, stealing computers with his personal and business financial records.

Herrera was in Washington, D.C., when his wife, Emily, reportedly returned to the couple's Callahan Estates home at about 2:30 p.m. to find drawers upended and items strewn about.

"Someone broke into our home yesterday through Emily's office door using a crowbar, or at least what the police believe was a crowbar," Herrera said Wednesday after returning to Las Vegas from a campaign fund-raiser.

Herrera said the computers contained all of his personal financial information. He said there was no backup for the information.

The Metro Police report about the incident lists an IBM Thinkpad, valued at $1,000, and a $250 Panasonic laptop missing.

In addition, the police report lists a $1,000 DVD player, a $1,500 St. John watch and a $500 Gucci necklace as stolen.

Dario Herrera said his neckties were also taken, although they are not listed on the police report.

The police report also states that file cabinets in the office area were disturbed, although it is not clear whether any of the Herrera's documents were taken.
