City starting work on northwest park

The city of Las Vegas Saturday will break ground on a $8.8 million multi-phased park project in the northwest.

The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the west side of Buffalo Drive in the vacant lot north of Las Vegas Fire Station 41, near Wittig Avenue.

The first phase of Centennial Hills Park includes the development of 22 acres of the 110-acre site located west of Buffalo Drive and south of Elkhorn Road. Features of the new park will include trails, a group picnic pavilion, parking lot and restrooms. Offices, maintenance facilities and storage areas will also be built.

The first phase of the project is slated for completion in the spring of 2003.

Twilight in Park concert set Saturday

The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will hold its annual Twilight in the Park summer concert series beginning with the group Latin Breeze at 8 p.m. Saturday at Sonata Park, 1550 Seven Hills Drive.

The concert series is designed to acquaint residents with a variety of musical genres while introducing them to neighborhood parks. Admission for all performances is free.
