Letter: Americans’ values are upside-down
Wednesday, June 26, 2002 | 8:57 a.m.
I can't understand why America is hated so much by other countries.
Could it be that we are a country composed of ignorant, rude, lazy and greedy people?
Could it be that we are more concerned about what the movie stars are wearing and where they are getting married, even though the price tag is in the millions and the marriage will last only a few years at best?
Could it be that you can get a scholarship if you play golf, tennis, football or basketball, but if you are interested in science, sorry, pay your own way.
How many of the people who get sports scholarships actually use their college education?
Could it be that more people watch ridiculous sitcoms than educational TV?
Could it be that we send millions of dollars in food and aid to foreign countries, only to have our senior citizens and homeless make the choice of food or needed medication?
Could it be that we would rather sue someone than try to make a living by hard work?
Could it be that we go to church on Sunday and turn into animals when we get into the parking lot?
Could it be that we pay baseball, basketball and football players more than teachers or scientists?
Wake up America!
