Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
Members of the Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section PGA teed it up last week under gorgeous conditions in the 36-hole, $20,000 Smith Brothers Professional Championship.
Winning with an 8-under, 65-71--136 over the par-72 Rhodes Ranch Golf Course was Shadow Creek pro Monte Montgomery.
Mark Sutherland (Spanish Trail), 66-72--138; and Cascata's Brad Church, 69-69-- 138; shared second place. Canyon Gate's Tyson Tidwell was fourth following rounds of 69-70--139 and Jay Davis (Southern Highlands) placed fifth with 68-72--140.
Unattached Tom Storey's 68-69--137 won the Senior Division over Jerry Roberts (Spanish Trail) and his 139. Third at 142 was Eagle Crest's Jim Kirwan.
This tournament pitted four-man teams from local radio stations against the print media in an 18-hole scramble format. The winning group from KJUL Radio consisted of Kevin Miskimins, Tom Davis, Mike Cavanaugh and Neil Umphress.
The following day, our four local TV stations went at it in a similar format, and winning was the foursome of Scott Haas, John Fredericks, Dana Wagner and Tim York of Channel 3.
