Judge must rule on candidate residency
Tuesday, June 25, 2002 | 9:08 a.m.
After an initial court appearance Monday, an election dispute involving the residency of a Clark County Commission candidate will be resolved Friday morning.
County Commission E candidate Michael Williams is being challenged by representatives of incumbent Democrat Myrna Williams, who allege the challenger does not live in the apartment he listed when he filed for office.
Jim Ferrence, an executive with Paladin Advertising, filed the challenge on behalf of Williams.
But since this is the first year such challenges have come before District Court judges, the legal proceedings governing them are still being sorted out.
Monday's case was deferred to Friday, when District Judge Michael Douglas will decide whether the challenger's residency is legitimate.
On Thursday Chief District Judge Mark Gibbons will decide a similar case in which Assemblyman David Parks is challenging the residency of a Democratic primary challenger also named David Parks.
