Deputy State Budget Director Don Hataway, considered an expert in the financing of public schools and the University and Community College System of Nevada, will retire July 5 after working in various government jobs since 1960.
Hataway, 62, has been with the budget office since 1988 and has been responsible for the educational budgets for more than 12 years.
Before joining the budget office, Hataway worked for the state Lands Division. He served as city manager of Carson City from 1978 to 1985. He also was a city manager in Colorado for 10 years.
State Budget Director Perry Comeaux said Hataway was one of the most knowledgeable persons in Nevada in educational finances. He said he hopes to contract with Hataway to return in October to help build the budget for the 2003 legislative session.
