Letter: Powell would forsake our only ally in Mideast
Friday, June 21, 2002 | 4:55 a.m.
Moving ahead in any way toward a "Palestinian state" is equivalent to rewarding terrorists for terrorism. It seems to me that the only person in the current administration in favor of a "Palestinian state" is Secretary of State Colin Powell, a man with his own agenda. He does not have the best interests of America in his mind or his heart.
Just like leaving Saddam Hussein in place after the Gulf War, Powell has a different future in mind for the Middle East. He is the closest thing the current administration has to a terrorist sympathizer when he would rather support and reward those committing the crimes than support and help defend those being terrorized.
If America considers taking his recommendations, we will be turning the back of America on Israel. This cannot be allowed to happen.
We need Israel as an ally and we need to support her unconditionally as such. She is all we have in the area. We sit by and watch Arafat and his goons kill innocent civilians on an almost daily basis, and instead of punishing them we are planning on giving in to all their demands and forsaking the only ally we have in the area. Please continue to support Israel, not just in words but also in action.
