Letter: Greed has taken control of nation
Thursday, June 20, 2002 | 9:09 a.m.
Ask a number of Americans what they thought was the nation's biggest business, and a variety of answers would be given. One might say government, another might say agriculture or another might say travel or tourism. I would answer: greed and corruption.
Does a day go by where we learn of another CEO who has raped his company and workers and walked off with tens of millions? Then thousands of workers are laid off in cost-cutting measures.
The Wall Street insider trading and other improprieties have long been documented. Then there are the auto manufacturers selling vehicles knowing deficiencies exist that may cause accidents and injuries or deaths.
Worse yet, medical suppliers producing faulty heart devices, knowing their product will be implanted in the bodies of ill people, all in the name of profit!
We have a new God in America: money.
