Red Rock Canyon photo contest set
Friends of Red Rock Canyon is sponsoring a photo contest to showcase the area's unique visual qualities. The contest is divided into three categories: children ages 8-12, professional and amateur. The $5 entry fee will be used as a fund-raiser for the Friends of Red Rock Canyon. Participants are limited to two entries.
All entries must be displayed in an 8x10-inch photo prints with an 11x14-inch mat and frame.
Entries will be accepted 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. Entries will be displayed Monday through June 28 at Lloyd D. George Federal Building. Winning entries will be displayed July 4 through July 26 at Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center.
District F hopefuls to speak today

Conference on brain tumors is offered
Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute will hold its free national conference at 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Circus Circus for Las Vegas area residents with an interest in adult and pediatric brain tumors. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to learn from leading surgeons, researchers, and other professionals about promising new treatments. Advance registration is needed. 'Picnic in the '20s' on Sunday
The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department will host "Picnic in the '20s" from noon-2 p.m. Sunday at the Henderson Senior Center, 27 E. Texas Ave. Participation is open to seniors ages 50 and up. Admission is $3 for men; two sack lunches for women.
Participating men will each choose a lunch and then share that lunch with the lady who prepared it. This type of event was considered a proper way for ladies and gentlemen to meet, mingle and socialize. For additional information, call 565-6990.
Class to focus on driver safety
A Driver Safety Class will be offered noon-4 p.m. Thursday and Friday by MountainView Senior Friends, 8524 Del Webb Blvd. Admission is $10. RSVP by calling 255-5404.
Event to raise funds for Habitat
The first "Dream Home" reception, a fund-raiser to benefit Habitat for Humanity, will be held 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Queensridge North, 851 Palace Court.
The event, hosted by Remington Homes, a Las Vegas-based luxury custom home-builder, will include food provided by At Your Service Catering, entertainment, and a silent auction of goods and services donated by local businesses. Tickets are $40. For more information, call Michelle Danks at 433-4331.
