Peter Benton's golf column appears Wednesday.
The Las Vegas Chapter Southwest Section of the PGA organized a Sponsor Appreciation Day at The Revere at Anthem Concord course.
This was the Chapter's way of saying thanks to many in the area who do their "bit" for the betterment of our local professionals and their chapter.
Format of play was Schamble, where players in each foursome tees off, then the best drive is selected with each player playing his own ball from that spot until it is holed out. One low net and one low gross score was used for scoring purposes with 50 percent of each player's handicap being used.
Cascata pro Brad Church and his team of Ted Buban, Bobby Mott and Steve Arrington proved too good for the other 14 teams with a score of 117.
Don Romstead of the South Shore Golf Club along with partners B.J. Kerzetski, James Driscoll and Randy Kuipen followed with a 120. In third place at 121 was another South Shore pro, John Herndon, along with playing companions Scott Lewis, Rich Jones and Matt Wagner.
Recipients of long driving awards on the four designated holes were Joe Martin, Randy Kaifer, John Karawak and Rich Jones. Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Walt Reno on No. 5, Stu Schroeder on No. 8, Richard Yeakel on No. 12 Ed Findlay on No. 16.
The $175 entry fee into this four-person scramble event includes a Continental breakfast, cart, greens fees, a $60 tee package, lunch and a raffle.
If you would like to assist this worthy cause by participating in a day's golf over a gorgeous course, please call 458-7009 for full entry information.
