Police investigating another home invasion

Tuesday, June 18, 2002 | 9:49 a.m.

Four people pushed their way into an 83-year-old woman's Henderson home Monday demanding money, marking the second home invasion robbery in the town in less than a week.

The woman heard a knock at the door of her Crown Royale Court home, near Greenway Road and U.S. 95, about 3:30 a.m. Monday. She looked out and saw four people, two men and two women. She thought one was her neighbor and opened the door, Henderson Police said.

The four rushed in and forced her down on the sofa, covering her face with a pillow. The robbers yelled "Where's the money?" The woman led them to a bedroom where she kept a small amount of cash, police said.

The suspects forced the woman into a closet and then pushed a large dresser in front of the door, blocking her in, police said.

The woman was able to push the door of the closet open to squeeze through and called police. She was not injured, police said.

Police are investigating the crime and checking to see if it was connected to a home invasion robbery in Henderson Thursday morning. Officer Terry Bowler, a police spokesman, said it is not known if the two are connected.

In last week's robbery, a resident was bound and threatened with a gun.

The man heard a banging on his door at his home on Sun Swept Way, near Green Valley Parkway and Robindale Road, about 7 a.m. Thursday but didn't open the door because he did not recognize the two men outside, police said.

The men then kicked in the door, tackled the resident, tied him up and put him in a bathtub, police said. The man was able to free himself about an hour after the robbers left and called police.

The man told police he was threatened with a gun. The man's house appeared to be ransacked and his black 1991 Toyota MR2 was taken, police said.

The man was not severely injured, police said.

The suspects in that case have not been identified or apprehended.

Bowler said residents who do not recognize someone banging on their door should not open the door.

"If you have concerns or questions about who they are, don't open the door," he said. "If they won't leave, call the police."
