Letter: Bush economy is a disaster
Tuesday, June 18, 2002 | 9:06 a.m.
The stock market is down 2,300 points from Clinton's high of 11,700. Unemployment is hovering between 5.8 and 6 percent compared to Clinton's best at 3.7 percent. Clinton added 22 million new jobs in his eight years, while under Bush, we have already lost over 2 million jobs to layoffs due to the Bush recession. Deficit spending returned under Bush after four years of surpluses under Clinton that began in 1997.
Republicans are in denial about the fact that the Bush people are raiding Social Security to cover some of their tax cut for the wealthy. As a grim reminder, this is what candidate Bush said, "In my economic plan, more than $2 trillion of the federal surplus is locked away for Social Security."
Mr. President, please, we are not all as stupid as you must think we are.
