Henderson Police investigate crash

Henderson Police are investigating a three-car crash at Pecos Road and Pebble Drive that happened shortly before midnight Thursday and involved a driver under the influence.

A woman riding in a white GMC sport utility vehicle who was five months pregnant was having pains after the crash, Sgt. J. Brooks, graveyard shift supervisor, said at the scene. She was taken to University Medical Center's Trauma Center.

Another woman, driving a white Mitsubishi, was also taken to UMC, Brooks said.

A man with cuts on his face and knees was transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Brooks said.

The driver of a black Toyota pickup got out of the vehicle, handed Brooks his driver's license and ran away, the sergeant said.

That driver could face felonies for fleeing the scene of an accident and possibly for drunk driving if it is determined he was under the influence, Brooks said. If anything happens to the pregnant woman, additional charges could be filed, he said. Henderson traffic investigators were piecing evidence together and could not confirm how fast or in what direction any of the vehicles were traveling.

Man threatened during robbery

A Henderson man was bound and threatened with a gun during a robbery in his home Thursday.

The man heard a banging on his door at his home on Sun Swept Way, near Green Valley Parkway and Robindale Road, about 7 a.m. Thursday but didn't open the door when he looked through the peephole and did not recognize the two men outside, Henderson Police said.

The men then kicked in the door, tackled the resident, tied him up and put him a bathtub, police said. The man was able to free himself about an hour after the robbers left and called police.

The man told police he was threatened with a gun. The man's house appeared to be ransacked and his black 1991 Toyota MR2 with Nevada license plate 2CNNV was missing, police said.

The man had bruises around his wrists and ankles but was not severely injured, police said.

Police did not have a detailed description of the two men.

Anyone with information is asked to call Henderson Police at 565-8933 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Judge denies injunction

A motion for a preliminary injunction that could have stalled Bureau of Land Management public land sales was denied by U.S. District Court Judge Lloyd George.

Bob Hall, president of the Nevada Environmental Coalition, asked for the injunction, saying that the BLM has failed to take into account the cumulative effects of air pollution caused by developed land.

George ruled that the BLM has sufficiently studied the effects of cumulative pollution.

In arguments last week an attorney for the BLM said that the government agency is only planning to sell about 1,300 acres of land a year over the next 20 years, and that the proper environmental impact studies have been done.

The BLM has postponed its May 18 sale of 216 acres as a result of the injunction request, and has not yet rescheduled it.
