MGM launches website

Las Vegas-based casino giant MGM MIRAGE has rolled out a website by which minority-owned, women-owned and disadvantaged enterprises can bid for services as vendors.

The site, www.mgmmiragediversity.com, contains a database of vendors that purchasing departments companywide will use to solicit bids. It is intended to level the playing field for smaller vendors, which don't have the capital to compete with larger firms, executives said.

Historically, only a small percentage of company purchases are spent with minority- and women-owned firms. The site won't weed out non-minority firms, but use a standard selection process to select the best possible vendors, the company said.

MGM aims to have 7,500 companies in the database by the end of the year.
