Las Vegas Area Fishing Report: Anchovies lead to striper success

Thursday, June 13, 2002 | 9:47 a.m.

NEVADA DIVSION OF WILDLIFE

Striped bass fishing continues to be good in the Boulder Basin while largemouth bass and channel catfish are being caught in the Overton Arm at Lake Mead.

Boaters have been reporting to NDOW that they are attracting and catching stripers by using cut anchovies as chum and bait. This method has been taking fish throughout the Boulder Basin with some of the better areas being the tires at Las Vegas Bay Marina and Boulder Beach.

Shore anglers have had recent success for stripers by fishing with anchovies at Government Wash and below the campground at Las Vegas Bay.

Boaters have fared well for three-pound largemouth bass at Fish Island in the Overton Arm. Channel catfish are being caught near Fish Island and in coves in the Muddy River area.
