Sgt. 1st Class James McIntyre Sr. has been named Transportation Corps Noncommissioned Officer of the Year for the U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard. Earlier this year the 1983 Eldorado High School graduate was selected as Army Reserve Transportation Corps Regimental NCO of the Year. He successfully competed against the best in the Army National Guard to achieve this ultimate honor in his specialty.
McIntyre, the son of John and Donna McIntyre of Las Vegas, is a motor transport operator and the unit truckmaster for the 257 Transportation Co., headquartered near Nellis Air Force Base.
"During this past year, Sgt. McIntyre has played an integral role in the development and conduct of multiple training events, including an emergency deployment readiness exercise during which he was instrumental in conducting the route reconnaissance and arranging for the necessary permits for 18 trucks to haul heavy and outsize equipment from Port Hueneme to Fort Irwin, Calif.," his commander, Capt. Jonathan Cox., said.
McIntyre also ensured that all the troops assigned were properly instructed and cared for and, due to the sergeant's diligence, the unit was able to transport over 1,500 tons of equipment and travel 56,000 accident free miles, Cox said.
McIntyre is a Desert Storm veteran and has served in the Army on active duty and in the Reserve for 12 years. He was presented the award on May 29 by Maj. Gen. Craig Bambrough, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve Command, during ceremonies at Fort McPherson, Ga.
Aside from his regular duties, McIntyre was also recognized for his volunteer work. He set up a display to raise money for the American Red Cross after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. More than $4,000 was raised in one weekend for the victims' families. McIntyre willingly gives up his spare time to volunteer at displays representing the unit and marching in area Veterans Day Parades to show his Army pride, Cox said.
"Sergeant McIntyre is a truly outstanding NCO who embodies the Army values," the captain said. "His technical knowledge and skills make him an invaluable asset to the 257th Transportation Co."
