Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrator Wayne Nastri awarded plaques to two Nevada projects, recognizing their efforts to protect the environment in 2001.
The Clark County Department of Aviation Facilities Division received the award because its caretakers for five airports in the county work to reduce energy consumption by making changes in lighting, heating and other facilities.
The work saved the county over $300,000.
Tara Pike of Las Vegas received the other plaque for her creative project to expand voluntary support of recycling and other environmental programs at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She also led students in performing more than 60 trash cleanups in desert wetlands.
