Letter: Remarks typical for election year

Tuesday, June 11, 2002 | 8:59 a.m.

I have watched the Las Vegas City Council meetings for a number of years. I have never heard Lynette Boggs McDonald make such fiery remarks as she did in response to Larry Brown and his request to review mailer policies.

However, there really is no need for alarm. I am surprised that Mayor Oscar Goodman and letter writer Mel Lipman seemed to have missed the fact that a Christian group was in attendance when she made her statement. The original report stated that the group applauded her remarks.

Could it be she knew the group was in attendance and tailored her remarks so as to draw possible votes? That shouldn't cause too much alarm and certainly wouldn't signal any attempt to infuse a public meeting with a religious agenda.

Rather, it seems like business as usual in an election year to me.
