Dealer to open Henderson store

Monday, June 10, 2002 | 10:58 a.m.

CarMax Group, a Richmond, Va.-based subsidiary of Circuit City Stores Inc., said it plans to enter the Las Vegas-area market with a car dealership it will open in January at 1000 W. Warm Springs Road in Henderson.

The site formerly housed AutoNation, which retrenched from the area in December 1999 in an effort to reduce costs.

A spokeswoman said CarMax will begin hiring 150 employees in December for the CarMax "superstore," which will have more than 60,000 square feet of space upon its opening.

CarMax, which Circuit City established in 1993 after two years of car-buying consumer research, has 40 car dealerships in 12 states, mostly in the East and the Midwest. Nearly 90 percent of the company's annual sales are in the used-car market, with new-car sales accounting for the remaining portion.
