Letter to the Sports Editor: Kudos to Chuck Pope
Friday, June 7, 2002 | 9:50 a.m.
We read with mixed feelings the article on Chuck Pope's retirement from softball ("Pope resigns after eight blessed seasons at Silverado," May 31). While we're very happy for him being able to spend more time with his family, the Las Vegas softball community is losing one of its best.
Our daughter has had the honor and privilege to play for coach Pope. There's nobody more responsible for her being able to continue her softball career at the collegiate level than Chuck Pope and (assistant) Jerry Streets. There have been many other young ladies that have passed under their tutelage that share that distinction. I would hope they are all better people for it.
Softball has been a large part of our lives, and coach Pope has been a large part of that experience. His dedication to his players and to the game will be sorely missed. Our best wishes to him and his family.
