Community centers plan kids' meals
Free meals will be given to about 300 children of low-income families at three community centers during summer months, the Clark County Parks and Community Services Department announced Thursday.
The program is jointly financed by the federal and county governments and is aimed at children from schools that qualify for the federal government's free lunch program. The centers participating in the program are Paradise, Whitney and Walnut.
Sharon Lopez, a spokeswoman for Parks and Community Services, said the program cost $29,466 last year, which paid for more than 11,000 meals.
"We hope to reach at least the same level this year," she said.
Roy's, 620 E. Flamingo Road,
will hold a dinner fund-raiser 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday to benefit Child Haven. Cost is $50 (payable at the door). Advanced reservations recommended. Call 691-2053.
This year's "Dads, You're Special" class
will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday in Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center's auditorium, 3186 S. Maryland Parkway, to teach fathers more about the childbirth process. For reservations, call the center at 731-8703 and press "0."
