Bomb scare prompts high school evacuation

Friday, June 7, 2002 | 11:09 a.m.

Palo Verde High School students were evacuated this morning after the school received a bomb threat. They were taken to nearby Sig Rogich Middle School, a school district spokeswoman confirmed today.

School police officials could not be reached, but officials of Community College of Southern Nevada, which has a tech center on the campus, confirmed that a bomb scare after 8 a.m. prompted the evacuation. No threat was found.

It was Palo Verde's last day of school. Monday will be a staff development day, the school district spokeswoman said.

School was dismissed, and bus service was to run as usual. Parents were told they could pick up their children at Rogich.

Today's school calendar called for seniors to be in the school gymnasium at 7 a.m. for a mandatory rehearsal of Tuesday's commencement ceremonies at the Thomas & Mack Center, according to Palo Verde's website. Caps and gowns were to be handed out at 10 a.m.

Final tests were being given to underclassmen at some schools, though that could not be confirmed at Palo Verde.

Finals also were to be taken at Rogich today, and school was to dismiss at 11:40 a.m.
