A pair of Reno-area prospects are expected to be Nevada's top overall picks when this year's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft kicks off Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Baseball America ranks Bishop Manogue senior pitcher Kevin Jepsen and Nevada-Reno junior pitcher Darrell Ranser -- a Carson High product -- as the 2002 draft's No. 31 and 32 overall prospects, putting both within range as potential first-round selections.
At No. 95, Former Green Valley first baseman David Jensen, now a sophomore at BYU, is the only Las Vegas-area graduate in Baseball America's top 100.
Among other local players who could be selected during the two-day, 50-round event are: UNLV's Jared Bonnell, CCSN's Zeke Parraz and Jake Vose, Basic's Matt Elliott and Micah Schnurstein and Durango's Jeff Jacobsen and Coltyn Simmons.
