Cancer Society runs supplement drive
The American Cancer Society is hosting a second nutritional supplement drive in Las Vegas to help meet the nutritional needs of cancer patients in the community.
Many cancer patients unable to consume or digest solid foods due to surgical or treatment regimes rely on the liquid supplements such as Ensure or Boost to maintain their body weight and health. The supplements are usually not covered by insurance and many cancer patients cannot afford the cost, according to the society. Some patient consume as many as nine cans a day.
A drive in January raised 2,500 cans of supplements and helped provide more than 100 cancer patients with liquid supplements at no charge. The American Cancer Society is now looking for donations to replenish their supplies.
Cases of liquid supplements can be dropped off at the American Cancer Society, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1325 E. Harmon Avenue, just off Maryland Parkway. For more information, call (702) 798-6877.
