Burglars hit Porter’s business office again
Tuesday, July 30, 2002 | 11:05 a.m.
Burglars broke into the business offices of Republican congressional candidate Jon Porter early this morning, marking the second break-in at the offices in a month.
Today's burglary occurred about 3:30 a.m. at Porter's Farmer's Insurance office on Whitney Ranch Drive near Sunset Road.
Campaign officials late this morning confirmed the burglary had occurred, but did not immediately comment on the details.
"No one was hurt, everyone's safe," said campaign official Maureen Shaffer.
A report from Henderson Police was not immediately available.
The same office was burglarized just after midnight June 29, just one week after a burglary was reported at Democratic congressional candidate Dario Herrera's home.
Nothing was reported stolen in the first Farmer's Insurance burglary, but mail was opened, computers were unplugged and Porter's desk was ransacked.
During that burglary, which occurred at 12:20 a.m., the alarm sounded, triggering the alarm company to send an office employee to the location.
When the employee arrived, he said he saw two people inside the office turning lights on and off. However, both people fled as police arrived.
On June 25, Herrera's wife reported a daytime burglary at the couple's Callahan Estates home. Some jewelry, two laptop computers, a DVD player and about 150 of Herrera's neckties were reported stolen.
Both men are vying for Nevada's 3rd Congressional District, a seat added due to the state's population growth.
