PLAINFIELD, Conn. -- Owners of Plainfield Greyhound Park are talking with interested developers, including unnamed Indian tribes, about redeveloping the dog track site, the Norwich Bulletin reported today.
Karen Keelan, executive vice president of Connecticut Yankee Greyhound Racing Inc., declined to discuss specifics of the talks, which are raising speculation that the site could become home to eastern Connecticut's third casino.
The track has been talked about as a potential casino site for either the Nipmuc or the Eastern Pequot tribes.
The Eastern Pequots were granted federal recognition last month. The Nipmucs are awaiting a final decision from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Any new development would be sought to "enhance" greyhound racing, Keelan said.
