Wetlands trail improved, ready for visitors

The Las Vegas Wash Wetlands Trail and the Northshore Road bridge have been improved and are ready for visitors, National Park Service Superintendent William Dickinson of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area said.
The bridge improvement enhances visitor safety while protecting natural and cultural resources in the Las Vegas Wash, which runs east of Las Vegas, Dickinson said.
The Wetlands Trail has been reopened to the public, with a trailhead parking lot and restrooms located near mile marker two on Northshore Road.
Three roller-compacted concrete grade control structures were built downstream of the bridge. Concrete was also placed along the banks to protect stream banks and canyon walls from corrosion.
This winter native plants will be placed in the wash to help restore the wetlands. Native trees such as cottonwood, willow and mesquite will be planted near the grade controls structures to improve wildlife habitat.
