Letter: Double standard applied to killing
Friday, July 26, 2002 | 9:32 a.m.
Excuse me, but what am I missing?
With the current bombing in Gaza City where 15 Palestinians were killed and 50 injured, the media was outraged. It's "mere reporting" when an Israeli is killed in a suicide bombing, but it's "underhanded," "murder," "horrible" and a "war crime" when a Palestinian murderer is a coward.
It was Hamas leader Salah Shehada, responsible for the planning and executions of countless suicide bombings, hiding in a neighborhood of innocent civilians, knowing he was wanted by Israel's government. The responsibility is his. When Israel's incursions in the occupied territory did not cull him out, the Israelis had no choice. Shehada had a choice. A fatal one.
Where is the outrage for the countless (too many for me to count) attacks on Israeli civilians for no reason, innocent civilians on their way to work, to school, to their husbands or wives?
I am tired of unfair media coverage.
Unlike Israel's enemies, Israel's people mourn the death of innocents. Golda Meir said, "We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children, but we can never forgive them for forcing us to kill theirs."
Hamas, which made the killing of Israeli children a goal, is supported by thousands of dollars from Iran and Iraq to every family of a martyr in exchange for every dead Jew.
