LV to hold party in northwest

Las Vegas officials are inviting residents to beat the heat with a pool party in the northwest on Saturday.

The pool party will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Durango Hills Community Center operated by the YMCA. The pool is located at the corner of Gowan Road and Durango Drive.

The party will include music, a variety of pool games, and an afternoon barbecue.

Online meetings begin Tuesday

Las Vegas will offer the first in a series of online meetings from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The new series of monthly online meetings will take place through the city's website on the last Tuesday of every month.

The topic for the first meeting on July 30 will be traffic and road construction.

Residents interested in participating can go to http:// eclv.ci.las-vegas.nv.us:8000/ to register. Participants need to register prior to the day of the online meeting. Once they are registered, participants will be able to long into the city's website at www.ci.las-vegas.nv.us the evening of July 30 and click on the first page icon that will read "online meeting."

Chabad to offer program on Monday

Chabad of Green Valley, 10870 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 104, will sponsor a special program from 4-6 p.m. Monday. The program will highlight the current state of affairs in Israel and how people in the United States can help.

The keynote speaker Rabbi Dovid Eliezrie, president of the Rabbinical Council of Orange County, will discuss the relationship between Israel and the Jewish People, followed by a question and answer session. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is $7. For more information, call 617-0770.

Pioneers group sets fund-raiser

The West Las Vegas Pioneers Inc., invite the public to participate in the Pioneer's Trail Penny Drive from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Las Vegas Valley Water District Desert Demonstration Gardens, 3701 W. Alta Drive, and continue along the six-mile trail, ending at at the Old Mormon Fort.

Celebrity cars, to be on display

Celebrity cars and motorcycles will be displayed at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Harley-Davidson Cafe's front patio, 3725 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The vehicles will include some the world's finest collector cars and motorcycles from movies. The cars will also be available for purchase at the auction Aug. 9-11. Community blood drive set

Summerlin Hospital along with United Blood Services will host a community blood drive from noon-5 p.m. Monday in the hospital's Conference Room 1, 657 Town Center Drive. Cookies, juice and other goodies will be served. For more information or to schedule a time to donate, call 233-7545.

Memorial will honor greyhounds

Local greyhound advocates will hold a memorial and Blessing of the Animals at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dog Fanciers Park of Clark County, behind Sam's Town, to remember thousands of greyhound dogs that were found killed on an Alabama farm this year. For more information, call 565-8892.
