Letter: Economy going down the tubes

It was just a few months ago that President Bush was strongly advocating that Americans put retirement money in the stock market. Of course, this would have undermined the Social Security system, but so what, the system wasn't designed for the wealthy anyway!

Also, despite warnings to the contrary, he was successful in implementing tax cuts which he said would stimulate the economy. Some stimulation! The federal budget has gone from having a large surplus to having a frighteningly burgeoning deficit in just a few months.
