Bowling fund-raiser set
Child Focus, a new nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping siblings in the foster care system together, will host a bowling fund-raiser at 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Texas Station Bowling Center.
Tax-deductible fees for Cosmic Bowl 2002 are $20 per person or $75 for a four-person team. All ages and levels of bowling ability are welcome. Deadline for registration is Aug. 1. Corporate sponsorships also are available for $200. For information, call 436-1624.
Child Focus is raising funds to build the first charter home in the Las Vegas area so that sibling groups can be placed together while in foster care. Many siblings currently are separated and placed in different homes or care centers.
VFW Post 10047 barbecue planned
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 10047, will hold a Barbecue Kick-off Membership Drive from noon-5 p.m. Saturday at 4337 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Anyone interested may call Phyllis Rosenthal at 369-2335.
Henderson man on wildlife panel
CARSON CITY -- Clint Bentley of Henderson has been named by Gov. Kenny Guinn to the Nevada Wildlife Commission to succeed Jelindo Tiberti of Las Vegas.
Tiberti served from 1993 to 2002 and Bentley will begin his three-year term as a general public member at the August meeting of the commission.
Bentley is president of ICI Contractors of Las Vegas. The governor said that Bentley is an "avid sportsman with a commitment to the environment."
