Dominant HMO’s earnings climb

Sierra Health Services Inc., owner of the largest health maintenance organization serving Nevada, posted higher earnings in its second quarter.
The Las Vegas company reported net income of $10.5 million, 34 cents a share, on revenue of $364 million for the quarter ended June 30. That compared with net income of $3.8 million, 13 cents a share, on revenue of $318.3 million for the same period a year ago.
A Thomson Financial/First Call survey of analysts had forecast earnings per share of 24 cents for the quarter for Sierra Health.
