Most gambling outlawed

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador -- In a blow to the country's casinos, El Salvador's congress voted to outlaw gambling.

Lawmakers voted last week to enforce regulations imposed in 1882 against games that require betting.

Under the law, casinos can stay open but won't be allowed to sponsor any type of gambling -- aside from a few exceptions, such as the lottery.

Local officials have been ordered to monitor the country's casinos to make sure they comply with the change.

The representative of Crown Group El Salvador, Ioszef Arguedas, said his business would fight the decision.
