New deputy budget director appointed

Andrew Clinger, who has worked in state government since 1997, has been named deputy state budget administrator, succeeding Don Hataway, who retired from the $79,000-a-year job.

Clinger, 32, has worked in the budget office for two years and before that was with the controller's office and the state Department of Business and Industry. Before that he worked as a financial analyst for the Silver Legacy casino in Reno.

He is a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno with a major in accounting.

The appointment was announced by state Budget Director Perry Comeaux.

Fire destroys vacant home

A long-vacant West Las Vegas home was destroyed today by fire from an undetermined cause, Las Vegas fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived at 623 W. Adams Ave., northwest of Bonanza Road and U.S. 95, at 4:40 a.m.

The house, which was scheduled for demolition, was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters put out the fire in 16 minutes.
