CARSON CITY -- For the third consecutive month, Nevada's jobless rate held at 5.5 percent in June with an estimated 61,000 people out of work.
The state Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported today the rate was below both the national rate of 5.9 percent and California's rate of 6.4 percent.
Gov. Kenny Guinn said the state's job growth is at its highest level since last September. There were 1,074,900 employed, up 1.2 percent from a year ago. Guinn said that while that was below Nevada's recent gains, Nevada's growth ranks among the highest in the nation.
The department said the Las Vegas Metropolitan statistical area registered a jobless rate of 5.9 percent, up from 5.3 percent in May. There were an estimated 49,500 people out of work in the area, which includes Clark and Nye counties and Mojave County in Arizona.
