Letter: Parochial schools do a better job
Friday, July 19, 2002 | 9:13 a.m.
I read Mr. Rozek's July 12 letter in the Sun. He states the decline of democracy has been opened by the Supreme Court's decision to honor vouchers for parochial schools and possibly others.
The decline of our democracy is being handled nicely by liberals, lawyers and lobbyists. Every president, both Republican and Democrat, before he gets into office says the same thing: "My top priority is going to make the public school system better."
Words like these make the grass grow greener. Both my grown children went to parochial schools, along with my wife when she was a child. In the morning my children put on their uniforms and went to school to learn, not to make a fashion statement.
My only regret was when it came time for high school they had to go to a public high school, because the parochial high school was too far away. Their first year was hell for them in the public school because they went over work they had learned years before in the parochial system. Both are college graduates, very successful, law-abiding individuals. Can the public school system say the same for the majority of its students?
Mr. Rozek, what private school would want to provide curricula that meets the minimum guidelines required in public schools? I can only guess, the ones that want to fail.
