NLV offers amnesty on building permits
The North Las Vegas Development Services Department is offering a three-month amnesty program to its residents who attend a construction seminar.
The amnesty program enables homeowners to get permits for already existing, nonpermitted structures without fines, citations or double permit fees.
Those who attend one of two seminars on July 27 at the Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 Bruce St., North Las Vegas, will learn the required steps to take before, during and after building small projects, such as block walls, room additions and patio covers.
"There's been unbelievable interest in this project," Brenda Johnson, assistant to the city manager, said.
North Las Vegas is offering education in lieu of punishment, similar to a judge issuing a moratorium on a parking ticket, Johnson said.
Seminar topics will include how to get a building permit, how to submit plans, inspection procedures and requirements, code enforcement, preventing fines and fires and increasing the value of the home.
There is no cost.
The first session at 1 p.m. is in English, the second at 4 p.m. is in Spanish.
For more information, call 633-1340.

in Las Vegas is arranging a dinner for several families from France. Call Chris at the Nevada Office of Veterans Services at 636-3070.
