Two Las Vegas deputy city managers, the Boulder City manager, the executive director of the Urban Chamber of Commerce and a private consultant are left competing for the Las Vegas city manager's job.
In the last two weeks Human Resources Director Claudette Enus has narrowed down the list of 15 candidates to five, based on their experience and how they best fit the needs of the city, said Judy Tuttle, deputy director of human resources.
The top five candidates are:
The candidates will be invited to attend the City Council's Aug. 7 meeting, where they will be asked to give a brief presentation and field questions from the council, Tuttle said. At the end of their presentations, the council could make a decision on the new city manager, or it could postpone a decision.
The city conducted a statewide search after Virginia Valentine announced her resignation effective May 31. Valentine has taken a job with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
Selby was appointed acting city manager by the council.
