Equal rights panel plans public meeting
The Nevada Equal Rights Commission, the agency charged with enforcing the state's employee discrimination laws, will hold its third quarter meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
The meeting, open to the public, will be at the North Las Vegas Library Meeting Room at 2300 Civic Center Drive.
The meeting will include a presentation by agency administrator Lynda Parven on statistics from the year to date, a hiring freeze at the agency and the agency's strategic plan.
There will also be opportunity for public comment.
Endeavor seeks playhouse builders
Endeavor, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization serving the disabled, will be accepting applications from individuals and companies wishing to build playhouses for the eighth annual "Playhouse 2002 Goes Under The Sea" dinner and auction scheduled Oct. 12 at The Mirage.
The playhouses auctioned at Endeavor's annual event, are custom-designed, lifelike playhouses, and will be displayed in the Galleria at Sunset prior to the auction.

100 Black Men looks for members
The Las Vegas Chapter of 100 Black Men of America will hold a membership drive from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in the MGM Grand's Conference Center.
The 100 is a non-profit organization designed to improve quality of life with mentoring, education, health and wellness, and economic development programs.

Fire Station 4 to host open house
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Station 4, 412 S. 15th St., and the grand opening ceremony for the new city Fire Station Special Photographic exhibit, will be held 10 a.m. Monday at 1564 Martin Luther King Blvd.
At the open house, a Fire Safety House and fire equipment will be on display. Also safety material will be available.
An special exhibit will be featured at the grand opening that day courtesy of Northern Trust Bank.
