Las Vegas tourism numbers rebounded in May to only slightly below what they were a year ago as weekend occupancy was strong, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported Friday.
Visitor volume declined 0.3 percent in May to 3.06 million, about 9,000 fewer than the same month a year ago, the LVCVA said.
For the year, Las Vegas has had 14.7 million visitors, off 1.9 percent from a year ago.
Midweek occupancy levels of 82.5 percent were off 2.9 percentage points from May 2001. Weekend levels were steady at 94.3 percent. The city had 126,394 hotel and motel rooms to fill in May, up 1.5 percent.
In Laughlin, visitor volume in May of 358,000 people was down 4.8 percent as total occupancy slipped 3.5 points to 82.2 percent.
Mesquite faired better, as volume fell 1.1 percent to 135,000 people and occupancy rose 4.1 points to 83.3 percent.
