Goodman, wife hurt in crash

Monday, July 15, 2002 | 9:58 a.m.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and his wife, Carolyn, were injured after their car hit an oil slick on U.S. 95 Sunday morning causing their white Mercedes to spin and slam into a concrete median.

The mayor's car was a total loss, said his daughter Cara, but the couple suffered only bruises.

A driver of a Dodge Durango pulled over to the side of the northbound U.S. 95 near Decatur Boulevard about 9:50 a.m. after noticing his truck was spewing oil onto the roadway, said Trooper Alan Davidson, a Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman.

"The mayor's wife was driving right behind the Durango and went through the oil slick," he said. "She lost control and hit the center median."

Another car behind the Goodmans' car also went through the oil slick and spun out, but did not hit the median or other cars, Davidson said.

The Goodmans were taken to University Medical Center's Trauma Center, which had re-opened Saturday morning. After being treated for minor injuries, the couple was released.
