Six Nevada artists have been awarded $30,000 in grants from the Nevada Arts Council.
The $5,000 fellowships were awarded in the areas of literary arts, performing arts and visual arts.
Nevada Arts Council Executive Director Susan Boskoff said the grants are intended to provide financial support to allow the artists to spend more time in the studio, develop marketing strategies and research new techniques.
Donald Revell, a poet from Las Vegas, and Janet Koenen, a poet from Zephyr Cove, each received literary fellowships.
A pair of Henderson musicians, Nils Stefan Karlsson, a pianist, and Stephen Caplan, an oboe player, each received performing arts fellowships.
Ben Parks, a ceramic artist from Tuscarora, and Michael Sarich, a mixed media artist from Reno each received visual arts fellowships.
Beth Sandoz, program service manager
for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, has been named assistant program manager for the Clark County READS program. She will work directly under program manager Kay Carl and will be responsible for training and recruiting volunteer reading tutors.
