Mother of baby left in tub to seek deal

Thursday, July 11, 2002 | 8:49 a.m.

The mother of a baby who nearly drowned in March waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in anticipation of signing a plea agreement.

Jennifer Brox, 24, was charged with felony child neglect after police determined she left her son alone in a bathtub with running water for about 20 minutes.

Logan Brox was found floating in the tub at the age of 11 months and doctors have said he suffered brain damage as a result.

On Wednesday, Brox's attorney, Randall Pike, told Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Deborah Lippis that the baby's "horizon" is much "brighter" than initially thought and that there is a good chance a plea agreement can be worked out with Chief Deputy District Attorney Eric Jorgenson.

Brox's preliminary hearing was waived, sending her case directly to District Court. She is now scheduled to be arraigned on July 25, but a plea agreement could be reached by that time, Pike said.

Neither Pike nor Jorgenson would discuss what the plea agreement could entail.

If convicted of the original felony child neglect charge, Brox could receive a two to 20-year prison sentence.
