UNLV women's team gets new assistants

Three new assistant coaches will join the UNLV women's basketball program for the 2002-03 season, head coach Regina Miller announced Tuesday.

Frozena Jerro, Anthony Turner and Cherie Hogg were named to the coaching staff, replacing former assistant coaches Pat Charity, Staci Schulz and Brooke Ingalls, who resigned to pursue other career opportunities. Charity recently accepted a similar position at Long Beach State.

Jerro, former head women's basketball coach at Cal State Northridge, brings nearly 10 years of coaching expertise to the Lady Rebels.

Turner, a former two-year assistant at San Diego State, will be in charge of scouting for the Lady Rebels.

Hogg, a former UNLV standout, returns to her alma mater after playing professionally in Europe and coaching club basketball in her native Australia for the last eight years.

Two Wake Forest players join Rebels

Former Wake Forest pitcher Ryan Braun and catcher Stephen Ghutzman have transferred to UNLV.

Braun, a 6-foot-1 right-hander, went 2-2 with a 5.45 ERA while 6-foot switch-hitter Ghutzman batted .291 with six home runs, 16 doubles, 39 RBIs and 27 runs in 48 games.

Both will be seniors in the fall and eligible to play next season.

The Demon Deacons reached the NCAA Regional championship and finished the season 47-13-1.
